Player Positions

Early Position:

How to Play Middle Position in Poker

Middle position makes you play the game of poker from the middle. You have seen few moves and are yet to see few more moves. You should employ exclusive hand selection strategies. If you are the first to enter the pot or even with just few ahead of you, consider raising with stronger hands and calling with the rest. If there is a bet in front of you, re-raise with early position hands only and call with any middle position hands.

Ordinarily, players in the middle position can play a little looser game but still need to be cautious and ponder over their moves before actually making the move. This would help you analyze how the players in the late position would react and act on your moves. A little foresight can help you pre-plan your moves.

The middle position makes you play a squeeze play. Squeeze could cause you to get trapped in a difficult situation. It could occur that you are trying to call a bet by a player in early position, but at the same time could face the threat of being raised by players in the late position. This move could prove dangerous as you would be wanting to slow down while holding a marginal hand. Yet, you need to keep up with the aggressiveness of the players in the early position.
